SnapRDP help
Answers to the most common questions, and if that is not enough, write to us at noreply@finklham.at.
Resend license key
Enter the email address you used for the purchase. We will send you all keys that belong to it.
Activating Pro
- Open SnapRDP, specifically the directly downloaded version. In the App Store version, you buy Pro in the App Store.
- Open Settings (⌘,) → “License”.
- Paste the key (case and dashes don’t matter) and click “Activate”.
Activation needs an internet connection once. After that, Pro also works offline.
New Mac?
A license covers up to 1 Macs. To free a slot, click “Deactivate” on the old Mac under Settings → “License”. If you no longer have access to the old Mac, contact us and we will free the slot.
“Too many attempts”
After several wrong keys, the license server temporarily blocks your internet address to protect against automated guessing. Wait for the time shown and copy the key straight from the email.
Connection problems
“The remote computer can’t be reached”
- Is Remote Desktop enabled on the Windows PC? (Settings → System → Remote Desktop. Windows Home editions don’t support it.)
- Does the firewall allow port 3389 (TCP)?
- Are the Mac and the PC on the same network or connected via VPN?
- Is the PC behind an RD Gateway? Then SnapRDP offers “Connect via RD Gateway …” (Pro).
Computer name not found
SnapRDP automatically retries single-label names like LenovoL16 as LenovoL16.local. If neither works, use the PC’s IP address.
“Access to the local network is turned off”
macOS asks on first launch whether SnapRDP may access the local network. If you declined, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and turn SnapRDP on. Connections to public addresses and via VPN work without it.
“The credentials are not valid.”
Check user name and password. For domain accounts, enter the domain or use DOMAIN\user. For Microsoft accounts, the email address usually works as the user name.
Keyboard, audio and displays
- Special characters are where they are on your Mac. Left ⌘ is Ctrl, right ⌘ is the Windows key, right ⌥ is Alt.
- Audio and microphone are set under ⌘,. macOS asks for the microphone only when a program in the session opens it.
- Use all monitors (Pro) only applies if more than one display is connected when you connect. Changes take effect with the next connection.
System requirements
- macOS 13 Ventura or later
- Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later); Intel Macs are not supported
- Windows PC or server with Remote Desktop enabled
